Olivier Valles – Point Lobos [Saltydog-Records]

Gloriously French and fuming- Olivier Valles is new to my ears, but here’s the deal, his latest Singles release on Saltydog Records is wondrous and becoming fare. ”Point Lobos”- is a case in point which scorches the speakers and vamps up good ole melodic Techno in a swirly synth, pitch shifts so far they spin off in to a clacking sonar space. One can also literally feel the contoured melodies bubbling, one on top of the other. Underneath lies a militant uncompromising Bass line, keeping very much in pace with the rest of the musical story. It’s avant-garde, heavy-chested work. That asthmatic wheeze, is grimy and doubles over the beats caressingly so. In all good ways, this one is a flight of melodic fancy you don’t want to disembark from.
