Heavily influenced by the Detroit sound, this particular musician’s back catalog is punctured with singles, EPs and remixes on some of music’s most reputable record labels that include Polydor/Love, OuterRythum, Fnac, React Records, Island, R+S and Outrage imprints, amassing impressive sales units and critical acclaim during his 20+ years as a producer.

And so, the might of Bedrock Records gets my thumbs up with its latest two tracker offering titled – “Scorpion / Orion” by UK Techno musician Dave Angel giving it the full treatment.
What’s heartening to see of the pack is that it truly stays away from being meaningless as can be easily associated more often than not with the current lot of releases from the style in question.

“Scorpion” from start to finish eschews the concept of being the epitome of a floor stomper, with its submerged bass thuds and qualling interiors, reaching to the farthest corner of the club room with ease. Held tightly in its acidic interiors that also include a fuming break down, there’s a story to tell of late night misbehavior. There is nothing messy and unsettling in this track, as the unrelenting scissoring synth and the stab that punctuates around brassily take control of the speakers. Each layer is well thought out musicality, even down to the swelling climax at the near end. Dropped at peak time, this one is a go and a major weapon for DJs to play with.

“Orion” on the flip side just squeezes the living daylights of your brains, with its fantastic exteriors, bouncing around like a ball for you to catch. The wonky bass line casts a metronomic spell by combining linear progression, light provocative vocals, thrashing hi hats along-side a drunken drummy pattern and starts to ascend to its own imaginary peak.
All in all this voyage centric Techno at best, bravo!!
