WD2N – Apollo EP [Cohesive]

Mexicali label Cohesive (founded by Alex Rubio of MEXA Records) makes a strong statement with their upcoming release titled – “Apollo”, this EP has been brought together by the duo Yuri Lima and Ivan Kovacek who perform as WD2N. What they do is impress, with the lone track and demonstrate an easy dance music intelligence and technical virtuosity. The results of the original mix are free toned and offer up sophisticated Techno in spades. There’s a hidden menace in the original, which is to say, it does not deviate left or right, the delicious melodic pad rips through again and again, against a back drop of gasping clean bass thuds. The chord accompaniment and vintage whip crack percussions all align perfectly to make you snap on the floor.
Delving deeper in to the pack we see the first of the two remixes from Chaty & Tamez, their rework makes for a lush melodic story. It’s a pleasant take on the original, even though it has a far more fuming center. There’s a relentless banging feel to it, with it’s scraped woodblocks of bass besides the bleeping middle synth that overpowers almost everything else, nicely. What comes to mind is how pushy this one is.
Balcazar & Sordo bring up the rear with the second remix that stay’s truer to the first one and make an emphatic entry in to the pack, encasing it with a darker interior, it gets an amorous atmospheric feel all round. Engaging from the word go, are the sinewy chord patterns, and a full fledged breakdown one can melt with. The elements thereafter just jump out at you and the goofy melodic center permeates your senses on top of that chunky shiny bass. Very slick very nice.
