It’s classic hits time with- ”L’Esperanza” and ”Beauty & The Beast”. Most of us would know, both of them happen to be Sven Vath gems from back in the day, yet surely lost on the majority of the floor pushing clubbers in the current scene. Having said that, Cocoon Recordings gets back in the scheme of things by releasing these glorious tunes, reworked by two of the most celebrated acts in dance music today.
The former gets a remix treatment from Berlin based duo Ame, whose handiwork on L’Esperanza” is nothing short of oh-my-god-we-have-something-special-on-our-hands-kinda-feeling. A chiming synth line keeps everything moving and the winding chord floats around warm and fuzzy, hypnotically so. The treatment of this one could work as a good transitional track to give the crowd a respite after more intense numbers or set the floor up for harder things to come, which is impressive. There’s a slow serenity in the melody pings, bristling with warmth and the break down is intelligent sequencing. There-after the track builds up as a monster with the bushy bass line, and clean beats cascading around my brain like fine silk.
Side B see’s the latter tune getting a full twist from Gerd Janson and Philip Lauer aka Tuff City Kids; and the remix really just stands up for a marvelous late night thumper. Bass stabs plump the depth up, interlocking and unwinding from mischievous snare sparks and enough machinery clinks to stop a cyborg army in their tracks. There’s an abundance of nonchalant Techno attitude all through with oodles of dark, chemical jarring inside. Yet the light essence remains in allowing the subtle strains of the original mix to float on, by leaving the metallic melody around and a picturesque industrial garden of flowers to bloom. Great stuff!!
