Robert Babicz – Fading Hearts/ Destiny Disrupted [Bedrock Records]

Cologne based DJ/ Producer, and need I add legendary figure of the electronic dance music scene Robert Babicz never rests, and neither does his myriad musicality. No stranger to Bedrock, his latest two tracker EP titled – “Fading Hearts/ Destiny Disrupted”, is out on John Digweed’s label now.
The first track is unadorned Babicz in all his glory. The revelation is skanking fun. There happens to be several different rhythms going on simultaneously, but all interlocking beautifully. You could dance a different move to each bar, as the grooves keep percolating. There’s a solid thump about the tune, and the melodic riffs crash in like your favorite evil synth sound, but in a friendly organic way. There’s dollops of jacking bass, thin and cold thrifty clutters, the kind you would dance to intricately every time the record comes on.
The latter is not far away from the previous track, yet this one’s a genre bending “House/ Techno” record, therefore more playable. There are dashes of jarring acidic stabs of percussives, a lurchy dubby monster so to speak. The glitchy interiors fight fumingly against the shuddering bass line, and squally pulsing melodics. Robert’s take on dance music that is sophisticated enough for home listening and yet propulsive enough for the dancefloor.
We love it!!
